A donation to The John Thomas Scholarship Fund will allow tireless and deserving volunteers in the community to attend the dinner who, otherwise, would not be able to attend and experience an evening of empowerment.
The LGBT community can be viewed as one large family and it is important to value and honor each member as an integral part of our combined whole. This belief was the motto of John Thomas, the person whose legacy is honored through this fund. Coined by William Waybourn as Dallas' most visible gay role model, Thomas was an activist in both the streets and the suites. Thomas was the first openly gay person to address the Republican National Committee and was a founding Board member of the National Gay and Lesbian Health Association. He also served on the board of the national gay and lesbian advocacy group, the Human Rights Campaign.
Thomas has given his time to local efforts as the first executive director of the Dallas AIDS Resource Center, an original member of the Turtle Creek Chorale. Thomas had been active with some 20 organizations, and was a founder of many of them, including the Dallas Legal Hospice.
Whether you can't attend the dinner but still want to contribute, or just want to make an additional monetary donation to our beneficiaries, general donations are always welcome! 100% of all general money donations will go directly to our beneficiaries, ensuring that your gift will make a lasting impact in North Texas and beyond.
